Avocado plants are really cute and free!

How to start you avocado plant

First you need to get an avocado, remove the pit carefully using a spoon to not damage it, clean it off and peel off the outer dark skin of the pit, this will prevent from going mouldy. Wrap it in a damp cloth/ kitchen paper and place in a ziplock bag (I'm using a reusable silicone from Yuggen). Store it in a dark place, check it regularly to make sure it doesn't dry out. After 2 weeks you should start to see a root and at 3 weeks it should have a 2-3cm long root, once this happens you can transfer it to a glass bottle or jar where the pit sits above the water but the root is submerged.

Eventually it will sprout a stem and grow some leaves, once it gets to your desired height you can snip the top new growth to stop it growing taller. You can keeping in water or transfers it to well drained soil if you want.
